The Dominican Republic’s military training programs involve significant state expenditure to equip and maintain ~~conscripts.~~ personnel. For the 2025 period, the Army estimated costs of RD$144.9 million to support 1,037 conscripts, with individual training costs reaching approximately RD$139,707 per person. This investment covers food, field uniforms, gear, and various types of clothing, alongside a curriculum spanning combat tactics, first aid, and weapons training. However, the government has faced financial losses due to recruits abandoning their training. Between 2024 and 2026, at least 211 individuals in the Army and Air Force failed to complete the six-month training period, resulting in a loss of more than RD$15.6 million. These losses stem from resources already allocated to food, uniforms, and equipment such as tactical backpacks and bedding for recruits who depart after the investment has begun. Beyond conscription, the state also invests heavily in officer development. The training of a single cadet costs more than RD$606,000, which includes an average of RD$244,150 for training and equipment, plus RD$362,090 for 12 months of salary based on a gross monthly remuneration of RD$30,174.19. Currently, 634 cadets, aspirants, and midshipmen are enrolled in the academies of the Army, Air Force, and Navy.
