The National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) has implemented several programs to enhance sports instruction and teacher competency in the Dominican Republic. In late October 2026, INEFI launched practical athletics clinics in Santo Domingo. Led by Executive Director Alberto Rodríguez Mella, these workshops aim to provide physical education teachers with technical tools to promote athletics in schools as part of a national talent detection and development program. During the ceremony, Rodríguez Mella emphasized the importance of sports training within the ‘Tanda Extendida’ (Extended School Day) framework, stating that comprehensive education must provide opportunities for physical, sporting, and recreational activities to support emotional and social growth. He also noted the progress of the ‘Aulas de Motricidad’ (Motricity Classrooms) initiative, a project based on neuroscience that has been implemented for two years to support psychomotor development in early childhood education.
