The Dominican Republic is utilizing data analysis and long-term strategic planning to address poverty and territorial inequality. Initially, the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic (CCRD) focused on analyzing ‘Poverty Maps’ to understand how poverty is distributed across different territories. This initiative aimed to improve the oversight of social spending by using statistical data to compare the distribution of public resources against regions where poverty is most concentrated. Building on these efforts, the government has introduced the ‘Meta RD 2036’ plan. Vice President Raquel Peña announced targets to reduce multidimensional poverty to 15% by 2028 and below 10% by 2036. The strategy follows reported declines in monetary poverty, which fell from 30.7% in 2021 to 17.3% in 2025, with preliminary 2026 data showing a rate of 14.58%. The broader plan seeks to double the country’s real GDP, create 1.7 million jobs, and triple the average salary by 2036. Recent reports from the social development agency Supérate highlight that the country has exited the FAO Hunger Map, with undernourishment dropping to less than 2.5%. Officials attribute these social milestones to increased household labor income, higher female employment, and the expansion of social protection programs such as ‘Aliméntate’ and ‘Bono Gas,’ which currently benefit approximately 1.4 million households.
