In late July 2026 the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) in the Dominican Republic focused on strengthening its internal structures ahead of upcoming elections. On 23 July the party re‑elected deputy Amado Díaz as the block spokesperson in the Chamber of Deputies and confirmed Fellito Suberví as president of its Distrito Nacional organization for the 2026‑2028 term. Two days later, later PRM technical head Rigoberto Reyes was reported detained in Cedimat prison for serious health problems, while the opposition PLD prepared a closed‑door assembly for its leaders. By 26 July the party emphasized the need to bolster local officials – mayors, deputies and senators – to preserve its congressional majority. New entrant Rafael "Rafelín" Pérez praised the party’s democratic agenda, and Igor Rodríguez Durán was ratified as provincial PRM president in Puerto Plata with overwhelming support. On 28 July a dispute emerged over the proposed appointment of the son of a leading presidential hopeful as PRM secretary general. Lawyer and former vice‑chancellor Carlos Gabriel García condemned the move on X, arguing it would undermine the impartiality of the party’s second‑most important post, risk internal divisions and jeopardise PRM’s goal of staying in power beyond 2028. At the same time deputy Rafael Pérez, previously with Fuerza del Pueblo, announced his switch to the PRM, praising its commitment to democracy, generational renewal and President Luis Abinader’s development vision for Pedernales and the south, and thanking PRM leader José Ignacio Paliza for the welcome.
