Donald rare earths project financing
Overview
The Donald Rare Earth and Mineral Sands Project in Victoria, Australia, has secured conditional approval for up to A$180 million in federal financing. This funding is part of a proposed A$200 million project finance facility, consisting of up to A$110 million in senior debt from the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation and up to A$70 million from Export Finance Australia.
The project is a joint venture between Astron Limited and US-based Energy Fuels Inc. It aims to develop a significant resource of light and heavy rare earths used in electronics, defence systems, and clean energy technologies. The partnership is intended to strengthen the critical mineral supply chain between Australia and the United States, as Energy Fuels holds the right to process the concentrate at its White Mesa Mill in Utah.
Developers are currently working toward a final investment decision, with the project expected to create approximately 200 construction jobs and 160 ongoing operational positions.
