AS Roma prepares to face Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for a significant eighth-round Serie A fixture. Roma, currently third in the standings, enters the match in strong form but continues to struggle with a significant injury crisis. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini must navigate the absence of key players including Dybala, Koné, and Lorenzo Pellegrini, the latter of whom is sidelined with a high-grade lesion expected to last at least two months. Gasperini is evaluating tactical adjustments, potentially relying on players like Cristante or pairing strikers such as Castro and Donyell Malen to fill these gaps. Napoli, managed by Massimiliano Allegri, seeks to regain league momentum following a recent defeat to Venezia, despite a 4-3 Champions League victory over Bodø/Glimt. Allegri has emphasized the need for defensive stability, noting the team has conceded 14 goals in 10 official matches. Key players such as Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne are expected to be central to Napoli’s performance as they work to integrate returning talent. Ahead of the match, Napoli figures have expressed concerns regarding the team's consistency. Former goalkeeper Gennaro Iezzo highlighted the need for stability in goal, comparing the styles of Meret and Milinkovic-Savic, while actor Biagio Izzo noted the difficulty of facing a Roma side currently in an “extraordinary period.” Historically, the matchup is closely contested, though Napoli holds an advantage in recent meetings, having won seven of the last 13 encounters. Napoli also maintains an eight-match unbeaten home streak against Roma in the league, a run dating back to 1982; Roma has not secured a victory at the Maradona stadium since 2018.
