Dorka Gryllus RTL appearance ~~revealed as marketing campaign~~ under regulatory investigation

Following her apparent medical distress during a live RTL Reggeli interview, actress Dorka Gryllus confirmed the incident was a planned component of a ‘Menopause deserves understanding’ campaign by the drugstore chain dm. The performance aimed to highlight symptoms such as tremors, sleep disturbances, and brain fog. While the campaign sought social sensitization, it has drawn significant criticism. The drugstore chain dm expressed regret over the widespread impact caused by the method and announced plans to provide further educational content via social media. However, the execution has faced scrutiny regarding whether it constituted covert advertising. RTL issued an apology to viewers, stating the intended message was not effectively communicated. Additionally, actor Csaba Pindroch criticized the incident, suggesting that ‘professional and ethical boundaries were crossed’ during the performance. The controversy has escalated into formal regulatory scrutiny. The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) and the Self-Regulatory Advertising Body (ÖRT) have launched investigations into the broadcast. Because the segment was not identified as commercial content, it has been flagged as potentially illegal hidden advertising, defined as commercial communication disguised as editorial content. The ÖRT is reviewing consumer complaints to determine if using a staged medical emergency as an advertising mechanism violates ethical codes. All involved parties, including RTL, dm, and Gryllus, have indicated their intention to cooperate with these investigations.
