Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra has won the DP World India Championship at the Delhi Golf Club, finishing with a score of 21 under par. This victory marks his third win of the 2026 season and has propelled him to the top of the Race to Dubai standings, overtaking Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy. Lopez-Chacarra secured the title with a two-stroke margin over New Zealander Daniel Hillier, who finished at 19 under par. Angel Hidalgo and Adrian Meronk tied for third place at 15 under par. Om Prakash Chouhan remained the highest-placed Indian golfer, finishing in a tie for 30th. The tournament was heavily disrupted by weather conditions, including torrential rain and lightning, necessitating a marathon final day where Lopez-Chacarra played 25 holes to secure the win. Notably, Lopez-Chacarra achieved this victory despite competing with a fractured toe. His performance was bolstered by a standout third-round 63, which helped him build a substantial lead. This win also strengthens his position as a potential candidate for the 2027 European Ryder Cup team. The tournament featured a prize pool of USD 4 million. In a related development, DP World announced it will extend its partnership with the DP World India Championship through 2035, reinforcing its long-term support for the DP World Tour. Following the tournament, World No. 2 Rory McIlroy defended his decision to compete in India despite a disappointing finish tied for 42nd at 4-under par. Responding to criticisms from former PGA Tour player Kevin Kisner, who suggested participation was motivated by financial incentives, McIlroy stated his presence was driven by a “genuine interest in trying to bring the sport to another country” with significant growth potential.
