49th Drama International Short Film Festival opens updates
The 49th Drama International Short Film Festival has officially commenced Festival, held in Drama, Greece, running from September 6 to 12, 2026. 2026, has progressed through its competitive programming. Under the artistic direction of Giorgos Angelopoulos, the festival features featured 157 films, including 45 world premieres. The programming is organized into five main sections: premieres, across sections such as National, International, National Student, International Student, and a newly introduced new International Documentary program. Special highlights include the ‘Balkan Stories’ retrospective and tributes to filmmakers Alinda Demetriou and Christos Dimas. As a recognized venue for short cinema, the festival maintains certification from approached its conclusion, the British Academy winners of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and recognition from the European Film Academy. Winners in the National and International competitive categories receive automatic eligibility Competition were announced at the Alexander Cinema. In this category, Alexandra Matthiou received the Screenplay Award for Oscar consideration. The event also hosts her film ‘Free Eliza (Notes on an Anatomical Imperfection)’, while Gregoria Metheniti won Best Female Performance for the annual meeting same work. Nikolas Drosopoulos was awarded Best Male Performance for ‘Adespotoi’ by Anastasia Givallou. Julia Bimba’), and Production Design for Konstantinos Chaldeos, Efthymis Gronthos, and Aphrodite Psychouli (‘Amarantis’). In the Short Film Network, a member network of National Student Competition, Evgenia Papazisi won the Screenplay Award for ‘Meltdown’. The festival, which maintains BAFTA certification and European Film Academy. Academy recognition, concludes with a ceremony to announce the remaining awards, including the Golden Dionysus prizes.
