An unidentified drone carrying a significant amount of explosives entered Bulgarian airspace from the direction of Romania and exploded near the Kardam border crossing on Saturday morning. The incident occurred approximately 100 meters inside the Bulgarian border and about 1,000 meters from a compressor station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, which connects Turkey to Ukraine. The drone crashed into a sunflower field, and authorities reported no casualties or damage to critical infrastructure.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev held an emergency Security Council meeting following the event. While the drone was not detected by either Bulgarian or Romanian radar systems prior to the explosion, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense stated that initial analysis suggests the aircraft was likely a 'Maya' type decoy drone, a model widely used by Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its willingness to cooperate with Bulgaria to clarify the circumstances, asserting that Ukrainian defense forces did not intentionally target Bulgaria. Bulgarian officials are investigating whether the intrusion was a deliberate act or a technical failure, such as a navigation system error.
