Drought response in South Sumatra

South Sumatra is facing challenges due to a dry season, prompting various government and law enforcement responses to secure essential resources.

To address food security and stabilize rice prices, the provincial government has implemented measures such as providing water pumps to farmers for irrigation and preparing rice kiosks for public access. While Governor Herman Deru stated that rice stocks are sufficient for approximately ten months, authorities have investigated a decrease in the volume of premium rice available in over 600 modern retail outlets in Palembang. The Regional Inflation Control Team is inspecting mills and factories to determine the cause of this supply dip.

In addition to food security efforts, the South Sumatra Regional Police have intervened to address water scarcity. In the Musi Banyuasin Regency, police distributed 10,000 liters of clean water to residents in Bukit Sejahtera and Bukit Pangkuasan to meet daily needs during the drought.
