Under the designation ‘Operación Tornado’, Mexican federal and state security forces—including the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Fuerza de Reacción Inmediata Zacatecas (FRIZ)—have conducted operations to dismantle synthetic drug production sites in the state of Zacatecas. Initial reports detailed the dismantling of a large-scale production site covering two hectares in the mountainous Sombrerete region, where authorities discovered four clandestine outdoor kitchens and seized various processing supplies. Subsequent operations targeted a facility in the Fresnillo municipality. This site, covering approximately 500 square meters, contained an open-air kitchen setup, two reactors, 26 LP gas tanks, processing cylinders, and various industrial tools and chemicals, including caustic soda. Authorities also located a makeshift camp used by personnel near the Fresnillo processing area.
