Ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Creamfields electronic dance music festival at Daresbury Estate, Cheshire Police conducted pre-event searches that uncovered significant quantities of illegal drugs buried at the site. Authorities recovered large bags of ketamine, MDMA, and ecstasy tablets, as well as 249 canisters of nitrous oxide. Police noted that individuals have attempted to conceal these substances by burying them months in advance to evade detection. Superintendent Andy Blizard stated that the force maintains a “zero-tolerance policy” regarding drugs at the event and confirmed that officers are working to identify the owners of the seized items. Following the conclusion of the festival, which hosted 80,000 attendees and 55,000 campers, police reported a total of 122 incidents and 38 arrests. Authorities seized illegal drugs valued at £246,000, the majority of which were nitrous oxide. Superintendent Blizard noted that while drug seizures at the festival gates were lower than in previous years, nitrous oxide remains a primary concern, highlighting that its classification as a Class C substance has increased its cost.
