Authorities at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) have conducted multiple seizures of illicit substances and contraband through coordinated efforts between the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) and the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar). In mid-August, a specialized canine unit detected 245.5 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in containers, as well as 18 packages of coca leaves found in luggage belonging to a passenger arriving from Lima, Peru. By early September, officials seized approximately 930 grams of ayahuasca extract originating from Peru. This seizure followed documentary reviews and physical inspections that identified inconsistencies in the shipment. Authorities classified the introduction of the hallucinogenic substance as a “risk to national security.” In a separate operation at the same airport, customs officials intercepted over 5.4 million Pall Mall cigarettes originating from Singapore. The shipment, weighing approximately 9,160 kilograms, had been falsely declared as electric speakers and scales. The detection was achieved through X-ray technology, risk analysis, and physical inspections conducted by Semar, ANAM, and other federal security forces.
