Spanish authorities have conducted several operations targeting hashish trafficking organizations via maritime routes. In Gran Canaria, a joint investigation by the Policía Nacional and the Guardia Civil led to the arrest of nine individuals in Castillo del Romeral after they attempted to transport hashish to the coast using an inflatable boat. In the Gulf of Cádiz, a violent confrontation occurred during a pursuit of a suspected narco-boat off the coast of Huelva. During the early hours of August 17 and 18, suspects aboard a semi-rigid vessel fired upon a Guardia Civil patrol boat and performed dangerous maneuvers. The suspects reportedly threw portions of their cargo into the sea to obstruct the pursuit and damage official vessels. Although the patrol boat suffered a breakdown during the chase, a coordinated operation on August 20 intercepted the original vessel and a second support boat. This operation resulted in the seizure of 5,926 kilograms of hashish and two narco-boats. Authorities arrested nine crew members at sea and located a tenth suspect on the coast of Cádiz. This individual had been wounded by gunfire during the initial encounter and was abandoned by his accomplices; he was subsequently hospitalized in Puerto Real. The Guardia Civil and the Customs Surveillance Service have confirmed the arrest of ten members of the criminal organization, describing the operation as a “significant blow to criminal networks operating in the southern Iberian Peninsula.” Authorities are currently investigating the group for multiple charges, including drug trafficking, attempted homicide, and piracy.
