Overview

Police in various German locations have reported multiple incidents of driving under the influence involving both motorists and cyclists.

In Gera, authorities reported a 47-year-old cyclist with a blood alcohol level of 2.37 per mille and noted two separate traffic accidents involving significantly intoxicated drivers on August 18, 2026.

By August 22, 2026, additional incidents were reported in Leopoldshöhe, where a 25-year-old driver led police on a pursuit before being intercepted while heavily intoxicated, and in Gotha, where a 37-year-old cyclist was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.71 per mille.

On the same day, further reports emerged from Munich, where an unlicensed 22-year-old man caused approximately 90,500 euros in damage after crashing into ten parked cars while intoxicated. In Ingolstadt, police intercepted three drivers for speeding or erratic driving, discovering blood alcohol levels between 1.22 and 1.4 promille, alongside suspected drug use.

Other regional incidents included an e-scooter driver in Rudolstadt testing at over 1.5 promille, a 37-year-old in Gotha testing at 1.28 promille, and a 42-year-old woman in the Hoyerswerda area with over 2.0 promille. Additionally, a 40-year-old driver in Lohsa tested positive for cannabis.
