The Dukovany nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic is undergoing significant operational and financial developments. Recent projections indicate that the expansion of the facility is expected to cost between 600 and 700 billion CZK, a notable increase from previous estimates of 400 billion CZK. Karel Havlíček noted that the higher figure accounts for the ‘price of money’, specifically interest on state-provided loans, though this estimate assumes no major construction delays. Analysts warn that these costs are highly sensitive to timing; for example, delaying completion from 2036 to 2040 would further increase expenditures. Experts also cite historical risks in the nuclear industry, noting that large-scale projects in France, Finland, and the United Kingdom have faced significant budget overruns and delays.
