The 2026 Durga Puja festival features an extended celebration period due to the Ahoratra Tithi, a lunar calendar phenomenon where a tithi extends across two mornings, resulting in six days of festivities instead of the usual five. In Bengaluru, nearly 100 puja committees are hosting celebrations, including a themed pandal in RT Nagar featuring a Chakravyuha design. In the Mumbai region, community celebrations continue to grow, such as the Aamra Prabashi in Thane, which has expanded from a small group of families in 2001 to nearly 700 families today. The Chembur Durga Puja Association also continues its seven-decade tradition of combining worship with traditional Bengali crafts and cuisine. Celebrity presence has also marked the festivities in Mumbai. At the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal, which is celebrating the 80th year of the Mukherjee family’s traditional festivities, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor joined singer Harshdeep Kaur on stage to perform the song ‘Kabira’. Alia Bhatt also participated in religious rituals, performing aarti while dressed in a traditional fuchsia pink saree with a blue blouse. Other high-profile attendees included Kajol, Jaya Bachchan, Tanishaa Mukerji, and filmmaker Anurag Basu.
