Dynacare medical lab worker strike in Manitoba

Overview

Approximately 350 laboratory technicians and technologists employed by Dynacare went on strike across Manitoba, including locations in Winnipeg, Brandon, Winkler, and Steinbach. The Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals (MAHCP) stated the dispute centered on wages, claiming employees earned between 20 and 50 per cent less than counterparts in the public health system.

Workers also cited concerns regarding the cost of living, chronic understaffing, and high-pressure productivity tracking. In response to the work stoppage, Shared Health announced it would extend capacity to mitigate impacts on diagnostic testing.

Following the labor unrest, the Manitoba labour board ruled that medical testing workers at Dynacare are to be classified as essential workers in the event of a strike or lockout.
