E-Redes, the electricity distribution company in Portugal, has implemented a series of scheduled power outages across various municipalities to facilitate maintenance and improvements to the national electrical grid. In late August, over 100 planned interruptions were announced for nine municipalities, including Lisbon, Leiria, Coimbra, Viseu, Beja, and Setúbal. In Lisbon’s Arroios parish alone, approximately 33,000 residents were expected to lose power during a six-hour window. In early September, maintenance work continued with disruptions in Sintra, Sertã, Ferreira do Zêzere, Mafra, Palmela, and Odemira. Between September 4 and September 7, specific interruptions were scheduled for areas such as Santo Isidoro in Mafra, Quinta do Anjo in Palmela, and Vila Nova de Milfontes in Odemira. On September 20, planned outages were scheduled for Leiria, Odemira, Loulé, Covilhã, Barreiro, Portimão, and Montemor-o-Novo. In Azeitão, interruptions could last up to six hours, while work in Barreiro involving the replacement of distribution cabinets was set for the morning. In Covilhã, areas like Ferro were expected to experience outages of approximately 90 minutes. Further technical interventions, including modernization and reinforcement of the network, continued through late September. In the Setúbal district, brief power cuts were planned for Almada, Moita, and Barreiro, with specific interruptions in Almada’s Charneca de Caparica and Sobreda on September 24, followed by Caparica and Trafaria on September 25. Additional works in Barreiro were noted for September 27. By late September, E-Redes scheduled further interruptions across ten municipalities, including Lisboa, Loures, Barreiro, Beja, Moita, Odemira, Olhão, Rio Maior, Seia, and Sertã. In Lisbon, specific areas such as Ajuda, Campo de Ourique, Misericórdia, and Santo António were expected to experience disruptions. E-Redes noted that these interruptions are generally localized, often affecting only a single street or a small group of buildings.
