Early July’s Orthodox calendar blended liturgical commemorations with Romanian cultural observances. Highlights included the Transfer of the Holy Girdle (July 2), joint services for Saint Kyriaki (July 6‑7) alongside Romania’s National Flag Day and Sânziene, and a series of martyrs and saints honored on July 10, 14‑18 across Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece, Romania and the diaspora. The Serbian Church invoked Saints Cosmas and Damian for health (July 14) and celebrated Kērikos and Ioulitta (July 15); North Macedonia observed Saint Andrew of Crete (July 16); Serbian festivities marked Saint Andrew the Kritikos and Saint Atanasije Atonski (July 17). Greek celebrations featured Saint Aemilian (July 18) and a broadcast of St Macrina, St Dios and the 630 Fathers of Chalcedon (July 19). Metropolitan Ieronimos led a popular evening feast at Tyrnavos Monastery amid a hot summer crowd. The calendar continued on July 21 with the feast of eight early martyrs—Akakios, Georgios, Eugenios, Theodoros, Theophilos, Ioustos, Matthaios and Trophimos—and the Synaxis of the Holy Mother of God “en tō Armati,” linked to a historic Constantinople icon. July 22 honored St Mary Magdalene the Myrrh‑bearer, St Markella of Chios, and St Menelaus. On July 29 the Greek Orthodox Synaxarion recorded the martyrdom of Saint Callinicus of Kilikia and Kilikia, Saint Theodote of Nicæa with her three children, along with Saint Theodosius the New, Patriarch Constantine of Constantinople, and also commemorated Saint John the Soldier Theodotus and several other lesser‑known Saint Callinicus as early martyrs. The day is also observed as a fasting day and aligns with the International Day of Friendship and the World Day Against Human Trafficking. July 30 saw the remembrance of five of the Seventy Apostles—Saints Silas, Silouanos, Epainetos, Kreskis and Andronikos—together with Saint Julitta of Caesarea. On July 31 the Greek Orthodox calendar honored Saint Euodikos the Just, noted for his service under Emperor Theophilos, and Saint Joseph of Arimathea, celebrated for his role in the liturgical calendar. burial of Jesus.
