Economic development in Arica y Parinacota
Overview
The Arica y Parinacota region in northern Chile is implementing development initiatives funded by the Regional Fund for Productivity and Development (FRPD).
Initially, the INIA Ururi and the Regional Government launched the ‘Alfalfa ancestral Alta Sierra’ project. This initiative aims to revitalize an ancestral alfalfa ecotype preserved by Aymara farmers to support sustainable livestock farming in the Lluta, Camarones, and Putre valleys by improving seed production.
Subsequently, the region was allocated more than $4.1 billion CLP to be executed over three years. This broader investment aims to boost regional productivity across agriculture, tourism, and logistics by supporting innovation and technological adoption for businesses ranging from micro-enterprises to large corporations.
