Economic pressures on Generation Z
Overview
Generation Z is experiencing significant lifestyle changes driven by economic pressures and rising costs of living in the US and UK.
Research indicates that financial instability is impacting social and personal lives, with more than half of single young adults aged 22 to 35 citing a lack of money as the primary obstacle to dating. This trend has led to what experts call a ‘love recession.’
Simultaneously, rising food prices are forcing dietary adjustments. Approximately 33% of Gen Z individuals report skipping meals or eating less to manage costs, a rate significantly higher than older demographics. In the UK, 83% of Gen Z shoppers have modified their habits, such as shopping at multiple supermarkets, while in the US, one-third of this demographic reports frequent stress or anxiety regarding the cost of eating out.
