Edinburgh Airport has announced a £500 million investment programme titled ‘Our Future’. This five-year plan, supported by shareholders VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners, represents the largest capital expenditure in the facility’s history. The project aims to expand the terminal footprint by 60 per cent, add new gates and aircraft stands, and upgrade check-in, departure, and baggage facilities to support increased international connectivity. One specific component of the project is the South East Pier Expansion (SEPEX), a £65 million phase involving Balfour Beatty. While First Minister John Swinney noted the investment’s potential to help the airport compete globally and drive economic growth, the plan has faced criticism from the Scottish Greens. MSP Kayleigh Kinross-O’Neill characterized the expansion as ‘an act of climate vandalism’ and ‘wilful ignorance’ of the climate emergency, arguing that increasing flight capacity is at odds with environmental goals.
