The commencement of the 2026/2027 academic year across the Balkans and Central Europe is characterized by significant infrastructure investments, new regulatory measures, and ongoing systemic challenges. In Croatia, approximately 443,000 students have returned to classrooms, including 36,700 first-graders. A new regulation has introduced a strict ban on mobile phone use in primary schools, though usage remains permitted outside of class time in secondary schools.
