Developments regarding the Egnatia Odos highway in Greece involve both administrative restructuring and infrastructure maintenance. In late September 2026, authorities announced the establishment of a new Highway Police Department to be headquartered at the Polymylou tolls. Operating under the Imatia Police Directorate, the unit will cover the section from the Veria junction through Polymylou to western Grevena. The department is expected to be funded by the Egnatia Odos concessionaire, with personnel provided by the Ministry of Citizen Protection. In mid-October 2026, asphalt paving works in the Paramythia region necessitated temporary traffic restrictions. These works affected both directions of travel between the Neochori and Sellon–Tyrias junctions, involving lane closures and reduced clearance widths through October 25. Specific restrictions included the closure of the left lane for traffic heading toward Igoumenitsa between km 28.2 and km 26 from October 16 to October 22. For traffic heading toward Kipoi, right lane and emergency lane closures were scheduled between km 26 and km 37 through October 25. On October 22, 2026, the highway was closed in both directions following a significant oil spill within the Agia Anastasia tunnel. The incident resulted in oil covering a large stretch of the roadway, causing major traffic disruptions and long queues of vehicles heading toward Ioannina and Igoumenitsa.
