Egypt is hosting several high-level international and African economic summits in late 2026. These gatherings include the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum, which aims to bridge political and economic development while mobilizing resources through private sector partnerships. In early October, African leaders convened in El-Alamein for the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (MYCM) and the Alamein Africa Forum. The forum officially commenced on October 2, 2026, in New Alamein, drawing approximately 1,500 officials, business leaders, and investors. Organized by Egypt, the African Union Commission, AUDA-NEPAD, and Afreximbank, the biennial event features conferences on trade, food security, energy, infrastructure, and digital transformation. During the opening, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi emphasized that the African private sector is a primary driver of the continent's economies, contributing over 70% of its GDP, but noted that approximately 85% of transactions are conducted with entities outside of Africa. He stressed that national stability and sovereignty are prerequisites for growth. Marking the 25th anniversary of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), leaders adopted the Alamein Declaration, which seeks to accelerate economic integration and mobilize continental resources. During On October 3, a consultative four-way summit between the summit, Angolan President João Lourenço called for predictable African financing, while Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye advocated for strengthening leaders of Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan addressed regional infrastructure. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune urged security. The group issued a shift toward implementing tangible projects and highlighted Algeria’s role joint declaration calling for peaceful solutions to conflicts in regional connectivity. Alongside the forum, Horn of Africa and Sudan, while emphasizing the MYCM focuses on advancing continental integration via need to maintain security and freedom of navigation in the Agenda 2063 framework Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and assessing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived to participate as Bab al-Mandab Strait.
