The Egyptian government is advancing large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives through public-private partnerships and international cooperation. Recent approvals include industrial wastewater treatment, seawater desalination in Suez, and the operation of electricity transformer stations. In the energy sector, Egypt has signed financing agreements for the $650 million Dandara solar power project in Qena, supported by several international development banks. The government has also revised its national targets, aiming to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 45% by 2028. Ongoing efforts include the execution of a 200 MW wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez and the development of battery storage technology. To support these transitions, Egypt is engaging in strategic cooperation with Denmark to focus on grid modernization, high-voltage direct current technology, and increased investment in solar and wind sectors. Recent high-level government reviews have focused on accelerating these strategies. To support the 200 MW wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez, the Ministry of Electricity has signed a contract for a new 500 kV overhead transmission line to transport wind energy to consumption areas. Discussions have also expanded to include the growth of green hydrogen projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and seawater desalination efforts, such as a planned complex in El-Dabaa. Additionally, officials are reviewing developments in local manufacturing for rare elements and black sands.
