Egypt national measles and rubella vaccination campaign

Overview

Egypt has initiated a three-week national vaccination campaign to protect approximately 21 million children, aged 9 months to 10 years, against measles and rubella. The initiative includes both Egyptian and non-Egyptian residents and follows the country receiving certification from the World Health Organization for being free of these diseases.

To achieve comprehensive coverage, the government has deployed over 75,000 medical professionals and support staff organized into more than 14,000 vaccination teams. The rollout utilizes a wide network of 25,000 schools, 48,000 nurseries, and 5,000 health units. Additionally, teams are stationed at markets, clubs, places of worship, and in remote areas to prevent the re-emergence of these illnesses.
