Egypt has released detailed operating schedules for its rail and metro networks, including the metro lines, Light Rail Transit (LRT), and the East Nile Monorail. The metro lines provide a combined 1,508 daily trips, with services typically running from 5:15 AM until approximately 12:05 AM. Following these updates to rail transit, the Egyptian BRT Company announced the start of trial operations for the second phase of its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. This phase involves stations stretching from Sokhna Road to Sun Capital. The trials are being conducted without passengers to allow for technical and operational testing of equipment and stations, as part of a broader effort to expand sustainable mass transit and reduce congestion. On September 26, 2026, the Ministry of Transport commenced trial operations for this second phase on the Ring Road. This phase includes 16 stations, such as Al-Moshir Tantawy and Al-Golf, which provide connectivity to the Nile East Monorail. New stations in this phase include Maadi, Mokattam, Al-Zahraa, Al-Bahr Al-Aazam, Al-Omraneya, and Al-Marioutiya, with Zahraa Al-Maadi and Al-Mansouriya expected to enter service sequentially. The Sun Capital station serves as an integrated transport hub spanning 80,000 square meters at the intersection of the Ring Road and Faiyum Road. The facility includes a main station and Road, featuring a workshop for charging and maintaining the BRT buses, equipped with 21 electric chargers. On October 3, 2026, Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad announced the delivery of 20 electric buses to the Ministry of Transport for the Ring Road BRT system. Developed in cooperation with MCV, this initiative is part of the ‘Air Pollution Management and Climate Change in Greater Cairo’ project, funded by the World Bank. The project aims to modernize public transportation and improve air quality by reducing fossil fuel reliance. The initiative also includes technical capacity building through specialized training programs with MCV to ensure sustainable operation and maintenance of the new electric technology.
