On 3 August 2026 a moderate magnitude‑5.5/5.6 earthquake struck the north of Suez region at about 03:00 local time, with the epicentre roughly 38 km north of Egypt. the city and a depth of around 10 km. Seismic agencies—including the USGS, the European‑Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the German Research Centre for Geosciences and Egypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics—reported magnitudes between 5.0 and 5.6. The tremor shaking was felt across Egypt and neighboring countries, but no in Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus and the United Kingdom. No injuries or major significant material damage were reported. Egyptian authorities recorded; isolated reports of a balcony collapse and a partial building collapse produced no casualties. Egypt activated the its national emergency response plan, raising plan. The Health Ministry, led by Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, raised hospital readiness, mobilising ambulance services and monitoring while the Suez Canal for operational impacts.
