Egyptian banks have introduced various savings certificate options to provide competitive returns for customers following interest rate stabilization. Initially, Commercial International Bank (CIB) offered several three-year products, including a premium fixed-rate certificate with an 18% annual return paid monthly, and variable-rate certificates with daily or monthly payouts linked to Central Bank of Egypt rates. Subsequently, other institutions expanded these offerings. United Bank launched a three-year certificate providing a 40% upfront return of the certificate value. Banque Misr introduced multiple products, such as the ‘Al Qemma’ certificate with monthly or quarterly returns, the ‘Ibn Misr’ certificate featuring a declining return structure over three years, and cumulative certificates offering a total return of 66.56% after three years. As of September 2026, the Central Bank of Egypt has maintained its key interest rates for five consecutive meetings, holding the overnight deposit rate at 19% and the lending rate at 20% following a decline in inflation to 14.5% in August. In response, the National Bank of Egypt has offered its Platinum Certificate with fixed annual returns of 17.75% for monthly payouts or 17.85% for quarterly payouts, alongside a variable-rate Platinum Certificate at 19.50% linked to the central bank’s deposit rate. Banque Misr continues to offer its ‘Al Qemma’ certificate with a 17.75% monthly fixed return, the ‘Ibn Misr’ certificate, and its cumulative certificate with a 66.56% total return after three years.
