Throughout August and early September 2026, the National Authority for Egyptian Railways and the Ministry of Transport issued frequent timetable updates for major corridors, including Cairo–Alexandria, Cairo–Aswan, and various Delta and Upper Egypt routes. These schedules maintain a diverse range of service tiers, such as luxury Talgo, VIP, sleeper, Spanish-developed, and Russian-style trains. Specific updates for the Cairo and Giza to Upper Egypt routes—covering Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, and Aswan—detail various classes of Russian-made trains, including air-conditioned and dynamic ventilation models. Sleeper trains continue to offer cabin systems with two beds and included meals. For passengers traveling from Aswan to Cairo, VIP and Talgo services are highlighted for their speed and fewer station stops, with Talgo services operating at 19:00. On the Aswan to Cairo route, VIP services include departures such as train 2011 at 05:15 and train 981 at 05:30. Recent updates for the Cairo–Alexandria line provide more granular detail on early morning departures. For instance, Train 119 departs Cairo at 05:00, alongside Train 903 at 06:00 and Train 905 at 08:00. The Alexandria to Cairo route continues to feature services such as train 902 at 06:00 and train 906 at 07:00. Comprehensive schedules for these routes now include detailed stop information for major stations such as Shubra El Kheima, Benha, Tanta, Damanhur, and Sidi Gaber. On September 10, 2026, the railway authority announced the full restoration of services on the Cairo–Aswan line following a freight train collision near Al-Blida station in the Giza Governorate. The accident, which involved a locomotive and two wagons derailing, resulted in injuries to a driver and his assistant. Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir has ordered a technical committee to investigate the causes. The authority apologized for delays caused by the wreckage clearance and the temporary use of a single track during repairs.
