MT Melsungen prepared for its first-ever Handball Champions League appearance at the Rothenbach-Halle in Kassel, facing North Macedonian side Vardar Skopje. Ahead of the match, coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo sought a debut victory despite injuries to Timo Kastening, David Mandic, and Nikolaj Enderleit. In the subsequent match, MT Melsungen secured a 33:31 victory over Vardar Skopje. Montenegrin goalkeeper Nebojša Simić was a decisive factor in the win, recording between 12 and 14 saves. In a separate fixture, Montenegrin player Branko Vujović scored four goals for Dinamo București during a 27:23 loss against Montpellier. MT Melsungen continued its strong form in the third round of Champions League Group B, defeating French side HBC Nantes 28:23. Played before 3,446 spectators at the Rothenbach-Halle, the victory moved the German club to the top of their group. Nebojsa Simic remained instrumental, with reports noting he recorded 17 saves during his 49 minutes on the court and achieved a 42 percent save rate. Florian Drosten led the scoring for Melsungen with six goals. However, the momentum shifted in the fourth round of the group stage when HBC Nantes secured a 33:25 victory over MT Melsungen. Nantes established early control with a 17:10 halftime lead, aided by Danish goalkeeper Christoffer Bonde, who limited Melsungen to a single goal between the 19th and 25th minutes. Despite a red card issued to Ihor Turchenko, Nantes maintained control. Thibaud Briet scored seven goals for Nantes, while Aaron Mensing recorded seven goals for Melsungen.
