In Apeldoorn, initiatives are being implemented to support the elderly population as more residents choose to live independently at home. To assist informal caregivers, the foundation Stichting Thuisgekookt launched the ‘Deel de zorg’ (Share the Care) campaign, which connects elderly residents needing meal assistance with local volunteers for weekly meals and social interaction. Formal care options remain available through different regulatory frameworks. District nursing, covering medical and personal care, is provided under the Healthcare Insurance Act without requiring a GP referral. For non-medical household support under the Social Support Act (Wmo), residents are directed to Samen055 to coordinate specific needs. To further support local caregivers, the organization De Kap, in collaboration with partners such as Klein Geluk and MEE Samen, is launching free activities to mark the National Day of Caregiving on November 10. These initiatives, which include theater performances and lunch buffets, aim to provide caregivers with opportunities to step away from their daily responsibilities. The municipality of Apeldoorn is providing financial support for these programs. Additionally, a meeting for directors and HR managers is scheduled for November 3 to address the challenges of balancing professional work with caregiving duties.
