The Election Commission of India (ECI) is conducting a nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to update and verify voter data. This exercise is being synchronized with Census house-listing activities to optimize field resources. In Arunachal Pradesh, Booth Level Officers are performing house-to-house visits to verify approximately 887,607 electors, with the final roll scheduled for publication on September 22, 2026. In Tripura’s West District, the revision is set to begin on September 5, with a final publication expected on December 23. District Magistrate and Collector Vishal Kumar stated the process aims to include all eligible citizens while removing duplicate or fake entries through a “transparent and participatory procedure involving political parties.” In Wokha, the Deputy Commissioner’s office clarified that during house-to-house enumeration, Booth Level Officers are only required to collect photographs; Aadhaar cards or other identity documents are not required at this stage unless an elector’s name cannot be mapped to previous rolls or discrepancies arise during the draft roll publication phase. Other regions are at various stages of the process. In Odisha, the revision has entered its final phase following the verification of over 58 lakh flagged records. In Maharashtra and Delhi, the publication of final voter lists has been rescheduled to November 4, 2026. In Karnataka, the commission is issuing notices to 43.8 lakh voters regarding mapping issues or logical discrepancies. In Nagaland, officials are working to improve data accuracy, a task described by ECI Secretary Binod Kumar as having a “generational impact.”
