Preparations for the Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally have progressed from media and weather announcements to official safety and capacity confirmations. Initial reports highlighted TG4’s coverage of the event through a special ninety-minute broadcast, ‘Beo ón Electric Picnic’, featuring live music in the Irish language. Meteorologists advised attendees to prepare for changeable weather and potential rainfall, cautioning against relying on recent dry summer weather. As the festival approached, Managing Director Melvin Benn reaffirmed the event’s long-term commitment to Stradbally and stated there are no immediate plans to expand the current 80,000-person capacity. Benn also addressed safety, specifically warning against the use of ketamine, which he described as “the most nonsense thing in the world to take.” To assist with harm reduction, the festival will host HSE services to provide information and anonymous substance testing. For the upcoming August 28 to 30 dates, the festival is utilizing wind power for its main performances. For the second consecutive year, Flogas serves as the official renewable energy partner, with electricity traced to the Knockawarriga Wind Farm. Additionally, the Flogas Power Deck viewing platform will be powered by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). Regarding site logistics, attendees may bring up to 48 cans per person into campsites, but glass, disposable barbecues, campfires, drones, and air horns are strictly prohibited. Ahead of the event, Met Éireann has issued a forecast for mixed conditions. While a “major washout” is not expected, attendees are advised to prepare for a combination of sunshine, showers, and cooler temperatures. Friday may see temperatures around 21°C with possible isolated thunderstorms, while Saturday is predicted to start with rain before clearing to sunshine. With night-time temperatures potentially dipping to 9°C, festival-goers are encouraged to pack waterproof clothing and warm layers.
