Recent developments in thermal management focus on improving hardware performance and extending battery longevity across various electronic sectors. In mobile and laptop hardware, new cooling architectures are being explored to prevent thermal throttling. For instance, leaked schematics for the OnePlus Ace 7 indicate a dual-airflow cooling system utilizing miniature fans to expel hot air. Additionally, in the laptop sector, replacing liquid metal with graphene sheets has been reported to significantly increase benchmark performance and reduce the risk of short circuits caused by leaks. Thermal stability is also identified as a critical factor for lithium-ion battery health in electric vehicles (EVs) and smartphones. In electric vehicles, EVs, liquid cooling systems are used to maintain temperature stability, as variances between cells air cooling is less efficient. Research indicates that temperature variations of more than 5 degrees Celsius can accelerate battery aging. aging by up to 25 percent. Furthermore, extreme cold can increase internal resistance and cause lithium plating during fast charging, while excessive heat accelerates long-term degradation. To optimize performance, manufacturers like Tesla and Porsche recommend battery preconditioning before arriving at fast chargers. Data suggests that frequent use of high-power chargers (over 100 kW) can lead to a 3 percent annual degradation rate, compared to 1.5 percent for those who avoid frequent fast charging. In smartphones, heat generated during high-intensity usage usage, such as gaming or video streaming, is a primary cause of degradation. To mitigate this, some devices employ “bypass charging” technology to power components directly, reducing heat buildup during charging.
