Cincinnati Reds player Elly De La Cruz has been central to several recent walk-off victories. In late July, De La Cruz scored on a fielder’s choice in the ninth inning to secure a 3-2 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. By mid-August, despite facing criticism from former infielder Zack Cozart regarding defensive errors described as “lazy,” De La Cruz continued to deliver in high-pressure situations. During a doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals, he hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning to lead the Reds to a 6-5 victory. This performance marked De La Cruz’s first career walk-off hit. Following a recent slump and a shift to the designated hitter role by manager Terry Francona, De La Cruz drove in Tyler Stephenson in the bottom of the 10th inning to secure the win at Great American Ball Park. The victory allowed the Reds to split the doubleheader with the Cardinals. The win also coincided with a strong performance by Eugenio Suárez, who went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
