In late August 2026, Germany and Switzerland experienced various emergency incidents including fires and severe weather. In Germany, a basement fire in Parchim led to the evacuation of approximately 90 residents and caused smoke inhalation for 25 people; investigators are considering arson as a possibility. In Switzerland, incidents included a balcony fire in Steinhausen and a meadow fire in Gossau caused by a gas burner. While the fire was brought under control by the following morning, authorities issued health advisories for the West Lausanne area, advising residents to stay indoors and close windows due to significant smoke. Preliminary assessments suggest the fire may have started in a vehicle carcass. The incident also caused the closure of a motorway section between the Ecublens and Morges-Ouest junctions.
