Santos FC attempted to re-sign former academy product Emerson Palmieri from Olympique de Marseille. The Brazilian club sought to secure the 32-year-old left-back via a free transfer or a loan where they would only cover wages, citing current economic constraints. Negotiations ultimately collapsed because Olympique de Marseille refused to release the player without financial compensation. Following the failed deal, Palmieri addressed his future via Instagram, expressing gratitude to Santos supporters for their affection while asserting, “Today, it is this jersey that I defend and I remain 100% committed, focused on our objectives.” While his public acknowledgment of his former club caused friction among Marseille supporters, he maintained he is dedicated to the project under manager Bruno Genesio. In a subsequent move to bolster the defense, Santos FC officially announced the signing of 34-year-old right-back Rodinei. Joining from Olympiacos following a contract rescission, Rodinei signed a deal running until December 2027. Requested by coach Cuca, the experienced defender arrives to compete for playing time alongside Igor Vinícius, particularly as Gabriel Menino remains sidelined with an injury. Despite his earlier reaffirmation of commitment to Marseille, reports indicate that Palmieri has now reportedly agreed to a pre-contract with Santos. This arrangement would see the Italian international remain with Marseille until his current contract expires in June 2027, allowing him to join his former club as a free agent at the end of 2026.
