Musician Emma Ruth Rundle announced her upcoming sixth studio album, ‘These Killing Times’, which features a return to a full-band approach. The announcement included the release of the single ‘God’s Picture’, described as a meditation on global issues such as climate disaster and conflict. On September 18, 2026, the album was officially released through her imprint, Errant Child. Co-produced by Sonny Diperri, the record blends dark folk atmospheres with orchestrations of piano, saxophone, and strings, alongside elements of gothic-doomgaze. Moving away from the minimalist approach of her previous work, ‘Engine Of Hell’, this project features more opulent arrangements and dynamic instrumentation, incorporating elements of post-rock, doom, gothic folk, and grunge. The album features contributions from musicians including Jess Gowrie, Troy Zeigler, Nick Reinhart, Gina Gleason, and Patrick Shiroishi. Thematically, the lyrics shift toward broader societal and political commentary, addressing topics such as capitalism, climate collapse, and the struggle for agency. Notable tracks include ‘Powerless’, ‘Anvil’, and the eight-minute composition ‘Human Kindness’, which blends atmospheric post-rock with heavy doom and post-metal influences. To support the release, Rundle has scheduled multiple tours. Following a North American tour supporting All Them Witches in October, she will embark on a headlining tour with a full backing band in November and December. A European tour is also planned for March 2027.
