In March 2026 England introduced rolled out the Simpler Recycling “Simpler Recycling” system mandated by the Environment Act 2021. The new guidance standardised 2021, standardising four collection streams for – food waste, & garden waste, paper & card, dry recyclables (glass, metal, plastic) and general rubbish, residual waste – and listed prohibiting a range list of everyday items – such as thermal receipts, multi‑layer crisp tubes, disposable coffee cups with plastic linings and various many garden‑waste materials – that must no longer be from being placed in recycling or garden‑waste bins.
