In May 2026, the teachers’ union AGMER called a 24-hour strike in Entre Ríos to defend Law 8732, demand real wage rises, and oppose the province’s pension-reform proposal. The same month, the ATE union warned of a funding shortfall for school canteens, while the provincial government announced a massive increase in scholarship amounts for students. June saw a series of AGMER actions, including a permanent camp outside the legislature, as Governor Rogelio Frigerio accelerated pension reform to raise retirement ages and tighten contributions. In July, the pension-reform bill moved through Senate committees and was slated for plenary debate. On 31 July, the Entre Ríos legislature passed the pension-reform law, citing demographic deficits. Deputy Jorge Maier noted that the contributor-to-beneficiary ratio has dropped from 3.5 in 1992 to 1.8, with projections suggesting it could fall to 1.2 within a decade. Concurrently, tensions escalated over the province’s centralized school feeding program. Following the implementation of a contract awarded to Teknofood, parents, AGMER, and the Fundación Cauce filed a collective injunction. In August, Judge Juan Francisco Malvasio issued a formal summons for families to join this lawsuit, which challenges the quality of breakfast and snack products provided to students. While a previous injunction was appealed by the State Prosecutor's Office, the matter remains pending a decision by the Superior Tribunal of Justice. Investigations into the program revealed significant irregularities, including reports of inadequate meals in cities like Concordia, Colón, and Gualeguaychú. Audits uncovered the misuse of funds for non-educational purchases, such as cigarettes and household appliances, alongside allegations of collusion between officials and suppliers. The Colegio de Nutricionistas de Entre Ríos, led by president Josefina Martínez Garbino, warned that the lack of nutritional transparency from the Ministry and Teknofood could lead to a “future public health crisis.”
