Enugu Air announced plans to launch its first international service connecting Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Nigeria, to Douala International Airport in Cameroon. The route, scheduled to begin on September 23, 2026, was intended to provide a direct alternative to multi-leg flights and long overland journeys, facilitating trade between Nigerian commercial hubs and the port city of Douala. Following the scheduled start, the twice-weekly service officially launched, operating on Mondays and Wednesdays. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah flagged off the service, describing the airline as a central part of a masterplan to transform Enugu into a major aviation hub and a $30 billion economy. The airline, which received its Air Operator Certificate in March 2026, aims to position Enugu as a regional transit point for passengers connecting through to the Central African market. The inaugural flight departed on September 23, 2026, marking the state-owned carrier’s expansion beyond the Nigerian domestic market. The service utilizes a 76-seat Embraer E170 aircraft. According to airline officials, the schedule is designed to allow passengers from Lagos and Abuja to connect through Enugu to Douala. This connection is expected to strengthen economic and social ties by supporting the movement of investors, traders, and families between the two nations.
