Environmental awareness initiatives and soil preservation events are being held across various regions in France during October 2026. The Living Soil Festival, organized by groups such as Causses Compost and Réseau Compost Citoyen, runs from October 3 to 18. Activities include bio-waste management training, composting site tours, and workshops on garden preparation. Specific regional focuses include the South Aveyron region and Sud-Hérault, where initiatives promote natural gardening techniques and the distribution of composters. As part of these efforts, the Association Causses Compost hosted a ‘Fête du sol vivant’ (Festival of Living Soil) event along the banks of the Tarn in Millau. The initiative focused on informing the public about soil life and waste sorting. To address data indicating that Millau Grands Causses residents produce nearly 200 kg of non-recyclable household waste annually, the association is promoting specific sorting methods, such as using yellow bags for packaging and orange bags or composting for food waste. Further community sessions regarding organic matter management were scheduled for October 10 and 11 near the Pont de Fer street. Parallel to soil-focused events, other environmental programs are taking place, such as a wetlands preservation initiative in Fécamp. This program includes educational presentations on biodiversity and water regulation, alongside guided walks to observe local flora and fauna.
