Environmental education initiatives are being implemented in Brazil and Portugal to foster ecological awareness among children and local communities. In Brazil, programs include the ‘Guardiões da Restinga’ circuit on Ilha do Boi, which uses science and play to teach coastal biodiversity. Other efforts include the publication of ‘ABC do Meio Ambiente’ by Cortez Editora, written by Dulce Seabra and Sérgio Maciel, which uses the alphabet to teach ecology through literature, children about topics such as biodiversity, composting, the greenhouse effect, and the importance of the Amazon rainforest. The ‘Vem Passarinhar Paraná’ project, which utilizes birdwatching events supported by the Clube de Observadores de Aves Norte do Paraná, continues to connect residents with urban green spaces through events like the birdwatching session scheduled for August 23 at Parque Lago Jaboti in Apucarana. Recent school-based efforts in Brazil include the distribution of environmental education booklets to students at EMEF Professora Neide Aparecida Sobreiro Lisboa in Quintana. Additionally, Aliança Energia conducted the ‘A visita dos coletores coloridos’ program at Escola Municipal Paulo Herôncio de Melo near the Acauã Wind Complex. This initiative used music and local species. games to teach approximately 65 children about selective waste collection, supplemented by the donation of selective waste bins to the school. In Portugal, efforts on Graciosa Island include the release of a children’s book designed to highlight the island’s status as a UNESCO biosphere reserve and encourage residents to act as ‘guardians of nature’.
