The posthumous memoir of actor Eric Dane, titled ‘My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments’, is scheduled for release on November 3. The book provides a candid account of his life, including his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which led to his death in February 2026 at age 53. In the memoir, Dane discusses his struggles with substance abuse and his departure from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. He explains that he felt he had fully explored every nuance of his character and noted that his salary had become too high for the production to sustain, feeling he had become ‘too expensive’ and ‘expendable’ for financial reasons. The text also details personal challenges related to his ALS diagnosis, such as a near-drowning incident in Antigua, and his battle with addiction, including a relapse in 2008. New details from the memoir describe the onset of his ALS symptoms, which began during a sushi dinner with his daughters. Dane reported a sudden struggle to use chopsticks with his right hand, accompanied by tingling and numbness. He initially dismissed the sensation as a ‘weird nerve thing’ possibly caused by excessive texting. However, the symptoms returned more severely three weeks later, making it impossible to grip the chopsticks and initiating a nine-month search for a medical diagnosis. Actor Jacob Elordi, Dane’s former co-star in the HBO series ‘Euphoria’ where they played father and son, will narrate the audiobook version. The audiobook is published by The Open Field, an imprint of Maria Shriver. Shriver is also credited as a narrator for the ‘Dear Reader’ chapter, which she authored. The audiobook is also set for a November 3 release.
