Erzgebirge Aue football performance ~~trends~~ and derby security

Erzgebirge Aue has experienced a period of difficulty in the Regionalliga Nordost. In late September, the club suffered a 2-1 away defeat against Chemie Leipzig at the Erzgebirgsstadion. Despite an early goal from Tim Maciejewski, Chemie Leipzig responded with headers from Rudolf Sanin and Julius Hoffmann to secure the win. By mid-October, the club faced mounting pressure following a streak of three consecutive losses, which included a defeat in the Sachsenpokal. Defensive struggles became a focal point for the team, having conceded 17 goals in 12 matches. Coach Khvicha Shubitidze identified these defensive issues as a primary concern heading into a high-stakes matchup against Hallescher FC. In late October, Aue ended a four-game losing streak with a decisive 3-0 victory against FSV Zwickau in the West Saxony derby at the GGZ Arena. Ali Loune opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, followed by a second-half goal from substitute Finn Heidrich and a stoppage-time goal by Aurel Loubongo. Following the win, Shubitidze praised the team’s “passion and willpower.” The derby was also marked by significant security concerns. Approximately 600 police officers were deployed to manage tensions after roughly 140 masked home fans attempted to charge toward visiting supporters using pyrotechnics. While pyrotechnics used by both sets of fans caused minor injuries to a steward, police intervened to prevent direct confrontations, resulting in 60 identity checks and stadium bans.
