In July 2026 Estonia was reported as the leader of the Rumavi Global Relocation Index, overtaking the United States. A month later the index placed Estonia again at the top with an overall score of 72.8 / 100, highlighting its strengths in finance, business, housing affordability, green space and street safety, while climate comfort lagged. In early August the index released detailed pillar scores, confirming Estonia’s lead with 99 / 100 for currency and banking, 96 for business opportunity, 90 for property rights for non‑citizens, 82 for housing affordability, 86 for green space and 77 for street safety. The country also earned high marks for its startup ecosystem (89) and ranked first for families, second for entrepreneurs, sixth for digital nomads and ninth for retirees. Singapore placed second overall, followed by Malaysia, Portugal and Taiwan in the top five. The report cited Estonia’s e‑residency programme, Digital Nomad Visa and Invest Estonia’s relocation guide as key attractions for companies and mobile professionals. By mid-August, a separate ranking by LEI register identified Estonia as the top European destination for digital nomads in 2026. This study, which analyzed 40 countries, credited Estonia’s first-place position to its robust infrastructure, affordable living costs, and supportive remote work environment. Specific advantages noted included a one-year digital nomad visa costing 85 euros and average monthly rents of 573 euros for a one-bedroom apartment. In this European ranking, Iceland placed second and Portugal took third.
